Comparison Among The Best Smart Watches

They are becoming more popular and the interest for smartwatches has been growing among Brazilians. The options are many. In this Digital Lab, we separated two categories-mainly because of the price. On the other hand, the expensive and isolated Apple Watch (in fact, for this reason, we prefer not to compare it to other models, but we leave here a full review of the smartwatch clock from Apple); on the other side then: we invite the top brands and compare the Watch Urbane, LG; the Bike 360, Motorola; and the brand new Gear S2, from Samsung–the latter, with ETA in the country very soon.

Design

The first impression, out of the box, in the wrist, care enough-it’s a matter of taste. The three models are quite different. The LG has more classic design Urbane-resembles a common analog clock. Has metal box, leather bracelet and a single button. Combines with a suit and tie every day, since the Bike 360 is a very minimalist black round box-a few details, a few newspaper clippings.

The clock is also made in metal with leather bracelet. His style is more casual, but the finish is also first-rate. Already the Gear S2 was the most attention. In our opinion, the most stylish and discreet. The watch is made of stainless steel and the bracelet is. The style is more casual, but also combines with sports … seems the most versatile of the three. In this first issue, as there’s no accounting for taste, prefer not to assign a winner. You choose what suits you best.

Screen

Here the differences begin to appear. From bottom to top, the Motorola has 1.56 inch LCD screen and a resolution of 320 by 290 pixels. A number of interesting look here is the pixel density. The Bike has 205 360 pixels per square inch, which results in an intermediate definition even on a screen that small.

Then, with a little smaller, the LG brings 1.3 inch OLED display with IPS technology. Resolution and pixel density is greater than your first contestant. Side by side, it’s easy to compare the greater definition and contrast offered by the OLED. The Samsung S2 is the Gear that has the smallest screen of three: 1.2 inch.

However, the Super Amoled screen Korean brand, with resolution of 360 by 360 pixels and the highest pixel density, overcomes his rivals with ease in this regard. Worth an addendum: despite shorter definition, and the clock from Motorola is the only Gorilla Glass screen scratch proof.

Performance

As much as the smartwatches are practically an extension of your smartphone, the computing power of these smart watches makes them quicker and allows the use of more complex applications. The Bike 360 have in your interior a TI OMAP 3 processor; 4 gigabytes of internal storage and 512 megabytes of RAM.

In fact, the three models tested in this laboratory have the same 4 gig of storage and 512 Mega RAM. Isn’t that where they differ. The processor of the Gear S2 is a Exynos of two cores and 1 gigahertz speed. At the top of the specifications is the LG Watch Urbane, which has in your heart the Snapdragon processor 400 to 4 cores and clock and 1.2 GHz.

In numbers, the LG is just ahead, but on user experience, the two Korean models if equipped. We use different applications in two watches, experiments to quick change between apps and access to notifications. It’s hard to notice any difference. Have the Bike 360 is not much slower-but nothing fruste the user; far from it. Thus, in terms of performance, the fairest is enact a tie between LG and Samsung.

Operating System

Among the three models, the only different here is the Gear S2, which runs the Citizen-proprietary operating system from Samsung. Despite having “face” of Android and even performance similar to the Google system, negative detail is of the applications. The Korean manufacturer says that soon will have more than 1000 apps available in the Gear Store. Have the Bike 360 and the Urbane, LG’s Watch, run the Android system Wear 3.0. The number of applications is huge. The use is quite intuitive and maybe even a little visual behind the Gear S2.
Anyway, operating system is also like the user-each one fits you like more. The important thing here is that all combine with their technical specifications and run fluidly and without any locking.

Connectivity And Sensors

The three models, LG, Motorola and Samsung, have Bluetooth 4.0 and microphone for voice commands. The Bike and the Gear 360 S2 also have Wi-Fi connection. Sound already, just in the LG Watch Urbane and Gear S2; Moreover, to complete the connectivity package, just the model from Samsung brings proximity NFC connection, therefore the most complete of the three.

Already talking about sensors, all they bring heart rate monitor and pedometer also. The LG and Samsung still have accelerometer and gyroscope. The Urbane Watch is the only possible to use with the iPhone-curious detail.

Functions

All smartwatch clock has the same basic functions: monitor health, change the interface and view and answer messages without taking the phone out of your pocket. As we said in the connectivity, the three models bring the ability to voice command; interesting is also the control mode of the LG Watch Urbane and Samsung Gear S2. With them it is possible to make a call, control the music player of the phone, answer notifications. In the S2 there is a function to find your smartphone. Already in the LG you can command the smartphone’s camera through the watch from a distance.

In this regard, as all meet your paper-of course, if you are with the smartphone around, after all the independent clocks are still totally dependent on the phone-a great technical draw between the three competitors. Fair!

Battery

If battery life is still the Achilles heel in smartphones, this question is extremely important in smart watches. Nothing more pointless than the battery of the watch is over during the day, this is true. Despite the difference in capacity, the batteries of Motorola and LG models lasts, on average, one day of normal use-the least expected.

The highlight, once again, get the Gear S2, which promises to between two and three days of battery life depending on the intensity of use. Although the capacity to be similar in all three models, Samsung, with the lightness of your operating system, was reached to better energy efficiency. Important point.

Price

Time to move in the Pocket. But the price may be decisive when buying a smartwatch clock. How much are you willing to spend. The cheapest model of the three is the Bike 360; with suggested retail price of 1100 reais. In the middle of the field, the LG Watch Urbane costs 1600 real. The more expensive, perhaps for being the youngest, is the Gear S2, from Samsung. Yet that is not available immediately for sale, brand informed us that he will hit shelves with prices starting from 1900 reais.

Conclusion

A conclusion somewhat difficult. A quick analysis shows that the price evolves in proportion to the quality and functionality available on the clock. But if we have to choose, we go: Thirdly, the 360 is the simplest of this Digital Lab. The screen with less resolution and lower performance, despite being the cheapest, leaves the smartwatch clock from Motorola behind the competition. On the other hand, if the idea is to enter this world of smart watches, is a good option for those who don’t want to spend that much.

The LG Watch Urbane, for real-1600 500 more than the Bike 360, took second place. It’s really the most possible intermediate model-does not stand out, but also leaves something to be desired in any aspect.

Now the Grand Champion of this lab-which should hit stores very soon-is the brand new Samsung Gear S2. The use of the watch through the outer ring is a detail on the side that is worth a few points in this comparison. In addition to being the most stylish, the operating system Citizen is pretty light, which results in a great performance and superior to the other two tested models. High battery duration is also featured. Despite the higher price, there’s no way to choose another winner.
